The
Peer Listeners have been around for over two years and at the
moment four young people are employed by the Borough of Poole.
Our main role is to consult with young people. We aim to work with young people
who are not in established groups, such as Poole Youth Forum. We think it is
important to represent as many young people in the Borough of Poole as possible,
not just a minority. So get in touch with us if you think your voice isn't
being heard.
Each of the four Peer Listeners work in different areas of the Borough of Poole,
such as schools and youth clubs. We are based in the youth offices above Poole
Library in the Dolphin Centre.
We
get involved in any issues, locally or nationally, that will
have a big impact on young people. We consult with young people
through different methods, such as conversations and questionnaires.
We have recently consulted with young people on:
- The
controversial issue of voting at 16
- The
proposed youth council in Poole
- The
Green Paper "Every Child Matters"
- Young
Peoples issues with Alcohol, Smoking and Drugs
- The
proposed national minimum wage for 16/17yr olds
- The
Environment
- Healthy
Eating Issues
- Britain's
place in Europe
- Legalization
of Canabis
- Council
provision for activities for young people.
- Connexions
and their viability and practicality
- Youth
conference findings and analysis
